Staten Island Stingrays

Coach Cathy Guerriero

Press Release

Staten Island, NY – For the second year in a row, the Stingrays’ AAU Basketball
Organization, one of New York City’s most elite travel basketball programs for
both girls and boys, named Dr. Catherine Guerriero as one of its coaches. Cathy
will be coaching the 7th Grade Girls’ (13U) Stingray Team for the upcoming Fall
2022 and Spring 2023 Seasons.

Dr. Guerriero, also a professor at Teachers’ College and a career educator, has coached this same group of female athletes through the pandemic and into the present season. This group of Stingray athletes also played for her this past Summer 2022 at the famous Rucker Park Summer League, run by Coach “Hammer” Stevens and played out of the famous Rucker Park in Harlem, USA.

Cathy was also named to the Stingrays’ Board of Trustees last year, with a board
focus on educational programming for the Stingrays and Volunteer opportunities for each of the Stingray teams.

“Cathy is a great addition to our coaching line-up, and was one of the reasons that
the Stingrays were able to come out swinging as an organization after the
pandemic,” said Anthony Passalacqua, CEO of the Staten Island Stingrays. “CG’s
College / High School Readiness and College Prep curriculum as well as her focus on community service hours for our teams are really extraordinary programs. They put us a cut above other AAU programs. She is the best and unrelenting for the kids.”

The Stingray’s organization has been operating for over 20 years and has helped hundreds of players successfully make their high school teams. In addition, many of the players that have been through the program have went on to play basketball at the college level.
